Colonics faqs - page 3        Special Offer!

Why should I have a colonic?

For optimum health, you should consider a colonic if you experience any of the following: chronic fatigue, headaches, irritability, depression, insomnia, constipation and/or distended abdomen.

How do colonics difference from enemas?

The cleansing action of an enema is restricted to the rectosigmoid or lower part of the colon (8-12 inches). An enema uses small amounts of water and greater pressure to stimulate the body’s natural reaction to expel.  Conversely, a colonic cleanses the entire colon, using gentle controlled temperature and pressure, and offers much greater cleansing and therapeutic benefit. Other key differences include:

  • Colonics involve multiple infusions of water into the colon while enemas use a single infusion.
  • During a colonic, fecal matter leaves the body via a tube and the client doesn’t see or smell the fecal matter during the session.
  • Colonics, administered trained therapists, requires professional equipment whereas enema kits are drugstore items and are self-administered.

What does it cure?

Colon irrigation is not "cure all" but it will help rid the body of toxic compounds that can be detrimental to your health.

Will I feel any discomfort during my session?

Most people feel great during a colonic session. However, in rare cases, people have reported a sensation of "gas" or cramping due to the colon wall contracting suddenly during the treatment. This passes quickly and is well tolerated.

How much does it cleanse?

The full length of the colon, 5+ feet, is cleansed during a series of treatments.

Is there any possibility of contamination from the equipment?

colonic machine

Acqua Star uses sterile disposable equipment (hoses, speculum) and the FDA approved machine is sterilized between sessions.

What happens during a colonic?

The treatment begins with the gentle insertion of a small rectal tube. You’ll lie on your back with a disposable pad placed underneath. Water is gently infused into the colon until you indicate that you are ready to release, or until your therapist makes the determination.  During the emptying cycle, your therapist will massage your abdomen to facilitate removal of waste material.

Through out the colonic, water temperature and pressure is monitored by your therapist to insure your comfort. Your therapist will generally repeat the “fill and release” process multiple times during a single session. Out-flowing water removes excess flatus (gas), mucus, infectious material, and feces.

A colonic is done through a closed system and waste is eliminated via a drain line. There is never any offensive odor or health risk to the client. Your dignity is maintained at all times.

How long will a colonic take?

Your first colonic appointment takes 1 1/4 hour and includes a thorough case history. Subsequent sessions take approximately 45 minutes and can be done during your lunch hour. You can return to normal activities.

Can I have colonic irrigation if I’m menstruating?

Yes. It’s actually good to have a colonic during your period since your body is in a cleansing cycle.

Can I go back to work?

Yes, you can go back to work and resume normal activities after your treatment.

Will I become dependent on colonics?

One good colonic is equal to 20 or more bowel movements so it may take a while for fecal material to build up in the colon after your treatment. Be assured, that the goal of colonic hydrotherapy is to foster a well-functioning colon and strengthen the colon muscle. A series of colonics will train your colon to function just as Mother Nature intended – so there is no need to be concerned about dependency.

Can I eat afterwards?

We recommend that you eat at your normal mealtime and that you make light healthy food selections after your treatment.

Will I need more than one colonic to empty the colon?

Commonly, people need multiple treatments to remove impacted material which has accumulated over time. Each subsequent colonic removes more stagnant waste and will improve the health and elasticity of the colon walls. Please note that as a primary organ of elimination, the colon will probably never be empty.
